The collection consists of two notebooks of Moser's travel diary to Brazil, 8 April-17 August 1970, during which he visits Jorge Amado in Salvador, with 28 photos of buildings, landscapes, and Inge and Gerald Moser illustrating parts of the second notebook; a file documenting Amado's visit to Penn State in 1971; Moser's notes and edited draft of a talk on the 25th anniversary of Amado's visit; letters to his editor and Moser's essay, "Jorge and Zelia Amado's Long Visit to the Pennsylvania State University in 1971," published in Jorge Amado: New Critical Essays (Routledge, 2001); and letters from Jorge Amado to Gerald M. Moser, 1971-2001 (in Portuguese).

Gerald M. Moser taught at The Pennsylvania State University from 1949-1978. As professor of romance languages, he taught French, Spanish and its literatures, Portuguese language and literature, and Brazilian and Luso-African literatures.
